Chicken cages are a widely adopted housing system for broiler production both domestically and internationally. This is because the design of layer cages provides chickens with a comfortable environment, enabling them to perform more effectively throughout their rearing period. The key advantages of layer cage design are most evident in aspects such as the front mesh and cage door, stocking density, and egg‑rolling angle, all of which prioritize the welfare and productivity of the birds.

The front mesh of layer cages is typically constructed from vertical metal wires and a few horizontal wires. The spacing between the vertical wires ranges from 4.5 to 6.5 cm, while the cage door usually consists of 2–3 metal wires that connect to the front mesh and can open either inward or outward.

Advantages of layer cages

1. The feeding area for chickens can be adjusted freely, allowing more birds to feed together.

2. Simple structure with minimal materials.

3. Installation and control are straightforward and easy to learn.

4. Reduce the risk of injury to chickens

5. It can better protect the chickens’ feathers.
