How can you build an efficient pig farm? What pig farming equipment is required?

What foundational elements are required to build an efficient pig farm? Pig farming equipment ? A qualified and efficient pig farm is key to boosting profitability in pig farming. The most fundamental… Pig farming equipment It should include a quarantine housing room, manure channels, manure‑covered flooring, a feed delivery system, a water supply system, a winter heating system, a summer cooling system, an exhaust ventilation system, a wastewater treatment system, a cleaning and disinfection system, cleaning equipment, and transport equipment, among others.

An efficient pig farm must begin with thoughtful factory design and construction; a well‑planned layout helps reduce labor and feeding costs, boost production capacity, and maximize profitability.

1. Fence

It is preferable to use a factory building with a gabled roof. An internal aisle, approximately 1.2 meters wide, should be left in the center to ensure smooth passage for feed‑transport carts and facilitate manual feeding operations. The pen dimensions are 7 meters by 4 meters, and the optimal stocking density is 23 to 25 finishing pigs.

II. Land

The flooring uses a semi‑dry screed; cement floors are ideal. Installing heating pipes beneath the cement floor and then applying the screed makes it easier to maintain cleanliness and reduces labor costs.

III. Manure Trench

Dig a 3-meter-wide manure trench on both sides, lay manure‑collection boards across the trench at a 30° slope, and allow pig manure to flow through the gaps in the boards. The 30° incline also ensures that the manure automatically drains into the septic tank.

IV. Automatic Supply System

Installing an automated feeding system on a conditional basis can reduce labor costs and save time and effort. It requires a quick, convenient, and cost-effective solution, with an investment of approximately 30,000 Korean won; however, the equipment must undergo regular maintenance and inspections.

V. Potable Water Supply System

To prevent the pigs’ drinking water from becoming contaminated, install concealed grooved pipes in the walls to avoid damage by the animals; it is best to provide two automatic waterers in each pen to allow the pigs free access to water. In the event of a water outage, ensure that the pigs do not run out of drinking water.

VI. Thermal Insulation and Heating System

It facilitates the installation of small boiler rooms and gas-fired boilers, as well as underfloor heating and indoor fan‑heater systems, ensuring not only an adequate floor temperature but also a balanced overall indoor temperature throughout the pig house.

VII. Cooling System

During the installation of the fans, Bo Gong also installed curtains. Four blowers were appropriately positioned, and a small recirculating water tank with a volume of 3 cubic meters was constructed beneath the curtains. A water pump was installed to supply circulating water to the water curtain, while the fan on the opposite side was activated, effectively lowering indoor temperatures in summer and providing relief from heat‑related emergencies.

VIII. Exhaust System

A non-powered exhaust fan can be installed at the roof of the building, eliminating the need for mechanical energy and reducing costs. A large exhaust fan should be mounted on one side of the upper wall, and an underground exhaust fan should be installed at the manure‑channel outlet. These measures can effectively lower ammonia levels within the facility, improve air quality, and help prevent respiratory diseases in pigs.

9. Wastewater Treatment System

Sludge has long been a persistent challenge hindering the development of the livestock industry. We recommend treating manure through solid–liquid separation. A scraper can be installed in the manure channel, with a water‑removal unit mounted externally, to remove waste from the manure ditches on both sides of the barn. The effluent then flows into a septic tank, where a solid–liquid separator presses out the dry manure for sale, while the liquid fraction can be applied to fields for crop cultivation.

X. Cleaning and Disinfection System

Set up a disinfection room at the main entrance, employing disinfection machines, dryers, fogging disinfection, and high-temperature sterilization. Place caustic soda and lime basins by the door, and purchase a pressure washer to carry out fogging disinfection at home.

Eleven, Transportation Equipment

In the premises, it is unavoidable to transport materials, feed, or other supplies; therefore, a low‑power three‑wheel transport vehicle should be purchased.
