White-feathered broiler chickens are ready for market at 42 days. What is the approximate feed cost from chick to mature bird?
The economic profitability of broiler production equals the selling price of the broilers minus their production costs. Thus, the economic viability of broiler farming hinges on both production costs and market prices. 1. Factors Affecting Broiler Production Costs All expenses incurred during the broiler‑raising period should be included in the production cost, such as feed, chicks, veterinary medicines and vaccines, labor, utilities, depreciation of housing and rearing equipment, bedding materials, and other miscellaneous expenses. The unit cost of a marketed broiler is calculated as follows: Unit cost = Feed‑to‑meat ratio × Average feed price + Chick cost (chick price ÷ survival rate ÷ final slaughter weight) + (Veterinary and vaccine expenses + Labor wages + Utility costs + Depreciation + Other expenses) ÷ Number of birds marketed. Therefore, the factors that influence…
Today’s poultry market update: reported by Yanbei Group.
Today, egg prices across the country’s major producing regions remained generally stable with minor adjustments, averaging 3.78 yuan per jin, essentially unchanged from yesterday. Among them, Shandong recorded the highest average at 4.02 yuan per jin, while Liaoning posted the lowest at 3.52 yuan per jin. Egg prices in key production areas stayed steady today, with slight tweaks in some localities; sales‑center markets in Beijing and Shanghai were also stable. Currently, relatively high retail egg prices are dampening consumption, and end‑users are gradually working through existing inventories. However, bullish sentiment among producers remains strong, and persistently high temperatures continue to weigh on laying rates, leaving stocks quite low. As a result, egg prices are expected to see modest adjustments in the near term, with the potential for further short‑term spikes later on. White‑feather broiler market: Broiler prices have halted their decline and edged up slightly.
Laying Hen Husbandry and Management and Egg Safety
The peak laying period of commercial layers has the most direct impact on farm profitability. Unfortunately, many producers hold misconceptions or even incorrect beliefs about managing this critical phase, making proper feeding and management during peak production all the more essential. First, nutritional strategies during the peak period: From weeks 20 to 40, egg production rates exceed 90%, with egg weights ranging from 40 to 56 grams. Hens gain weight rapidly—white-shelled layers increase by approximately 5 grams per day, rising from about 1,300 grams to 1,700 grams—and egg production shows a sharp, stepwise increase. During this stage, it is crucial to maintain the highest possible peak production and maximize egg weight; energy intake is a key factor influencing egg-laying performance.
